1. When was NPI implemented?

    The NPI was implemented on December 17, 2007 for all Medi-Cal providers. Effective December 17, 2007, the NPI can be submitted in place of the Medi-Cal provider number.

2. Where does the Delay Reason code go on the CMS-1500?

This code is now entered in Box 24C if an emergency indicator does not need to be reported on the claim. Enter this code in the unshaded, bottom portion of the box. If there is an emergency indicator, enter the delay reason code in the top shaded portion of this box.
